Make your Skull Pumpkin
Here’s what you need to make the most demonic of pumpkins:
- A pumpkin (as big as possible)
- A knife
- A vegetable peeler
- A thumbtack or pen
- Scotch
You are free to choose not to use a shape template to make your drawing. But since we are not all artists of great talent, here is a model! You can easily print the drawing that is just below by saving the image. It will serve as a model for you to draw much more simply on your pumpkin. If this model does not suit you completely, do not hesitate to take a look on Pinterest for example to find another skull image. ☠️
Then you have to cut the top of the pumpkin, clean it completely, removing the seeds and the pulp. When it is clean from the inside, you can tape your skull design on the pumpkin using your adhesive tape.
Now is the time to start drawing. Some people prefer to pencil in the outlines of the drawing. Others make the traces with the knife. You are free to choose what suits you best. The most common way is to hold the large vegetable on your lap or put it on a table to be at the right height. 💀
You can also use tools if needed: A saw, a screwdriver, or any other tool is welcome if you are more comfortable than with those we talked about just before.
Our drawing has lots of shapes and details, so you can only drill holes around the main shapes that you are sure you want to carve . The details seem pretty hard to do, but everyone will choose how detailed they want their pumpkin to be! Be sure to keep a copy of the drawing next to you to guide you through the finer details that can be drawn once you remove the model from your pumpkin.
We advise you to cut out some of the outline shapes with a knife. And then use the tip of your vegetable peeler to connect the dots and cut out the other shapes just deep enough to make the skull appear correctly . You can also use a box cutter or a wood chisel to do the heavy lifting, then the finishing touches.
Drawing Skull on Pumpkin
Many pumpkins are orange. But we must not forget the white ones… They are just as diabolical! And this time, we are not going to dig into the flesh of the vegetable, but simply draw on it. The result is often just as hot. And even more when you adopt both. A white pumpkin with a skull design next to the orange pumpkin where the skull has been cut out of its flesh, and Halloween takes on a whole new twist!

- A pumpkin
- carbon paper
- Scotch
- Pen
- A marker
As for the permanent marker , we’ve found that some work much better than others, so make sure whatever markers you plan to use work well on your pumpkin! ✍️
Start by carefully sticking the carbon paper on the pumpkin with tape. Try to cover only a small part of the carbon paper, as this will leave a mark on the pumpkin (the sticky mark of the tape). Then stick your skull drawing on top, still with your tape.
Skull Faction Tip : Using carbon paper to pop the design will also work if you’re carving the pumpkin. You can use a toothbrush and water with a little soap to remove any extra carbon after removing the design and the paper underneath. Similarly, if you only have an orange pumpkin, you can paint the area you plan to cut with white acrylic paint.
Use a pen or pencil to trace the shapes of the skull design . Then remove the template and the carbon paper, go over the carbon lines with a permanent marker and fill in the design with the colors you want!
